Here are three reasons why all leaders should be mentors to others.
You Have the Knowledge and Experience

As a business owner, however, you have an additional responsibility to mentor your team. Ultimately, the only way to make a team better is to make the people on it better. When you mentor your team, you’re investing in their individual careers as well as their collective power to move your business forward. You Can Set the Example
If you want your middle management to take more ownership of developing their teams, you have to model that behavior. Make training and mentorship a priority for your leaders, and they will in turn make it a priority for their teams. It’s worth mentioning here that mentorship is important for all members of your team, not just your high-performers or the ones you get along with well on a personal level. This isn’t easy – it takes courage and hard work – but it will set the example for the rest of the organization as your managers start to apply the lessons they’ve learned from you with their own teams. You Will Grow as a Leader
Mentoring forces you to think about your own leadership philosophy through self-examination. You might think you have it all figured out, but when it comes time to impart that knowledge to others you may notice holes in your logic. You may also uncover weaknesses in how you relate to certain personality types or how you communicate with them. On the positive side, you’ll likely discover you know and can teach more than you thought you could. Your experiences will help your team keep from making the same mistakes. Plus, mentorship puts you in the spotlight – you’ll be motivated to do the right thing more consistently because you know other people are looking up to you and counting on you to model correct behavior. Mentorship is a skill that takes practice. Commit to yourself and to your team by working on it.
