We all love our social media accounts – and if we’re honest we all spend too much time on them, senselessly scrolling through Facebook and sending silly photos on Snapchat. Increasingly, social media is how news is spread, how friends stay connected, and how businesses communicate with their customers. If your business doesn’t have even a basic social media presence, you are at a tremendous disadvantage. Here’s why you need to get your business’s social media accounts set up right away.

Take an informal poll of your customers. We bet you’ll find that most of them have at least one social media account that they use regularly, even if they just browse instead of post. It’s important that you’re able to reach your customers on the platforms they use most. In our experience, Facebook is a great place to start for most businesses. Even if you’re only posting a few times a week at the start, your customers want to see that you’re at least giving it a shot. In 2018, a business that doesn’t have a social media presence at all starts to raise some eyebrows. Social media platforms provide an easy way for your customers to get in touch with you and vice versa. Most platforms can be managed via an app for your smartphone, so you’re never more than a few taps away from making a post or answering a customer question. Customers will love that you are so reachable and will reward you with repeat visits. If you want to take things a step further, designate a person or team within your company to post to social media and to handle customer inquiries. You’ll want to make sure you set out some guidelines before you turn them loose, but after that you can sit back and watch your customer satisfaction ratings soar.

Not only does a social media presence help you interact with existing customers and entice them to come back, it’s also free advertising! Your future customers are out there looking for businesses just like yours, and one of the places they will browse is social media. Keeping your profiles up-to-date and professional is a great way to put your best foot forward before the potential customer has even set foot in your business. It can sometimes be difficult to attribute sales directly to social media posts, but trust us, they’re working. Your customer might scroll right by your photo of a juicy cheeseburger without so much as a like, but later that week they’ll find themselves with a serious beef craving and head right for your front door. It takes relatively little effort to post on social media, especially if you have help from your employees. You’ll soon find all that web traffic turning into foot traffic.
